The Delta blog

Delta is a free app for iPhone and Android that turns a routine blood test into a biological age. We call that number your Adaptive Age. This blog explains how it works, in plain words, with the maths shown.

What you will find here

Biological age is an estimate of how your body is ageing, set against your age in years. Delta works it out with PhenoAge, a published formula from Levine and colleagues (2018). It uses nine blood markers that most standard lab panels already include: albumin, creatinine, fasting glucose, C-reactive protein, lymphocyte percentage, mean corpuscular volume, red cell distribution width, alkaline phosphatase, and white blood cell count. Add your age in years and the result is plain arithmetic. There is no guessing and no black box. The same inputs always give the same answer.

If one marker is missing, Delta does not fill the gap with an average. It tells you what is missing and does not score. If a unit on your report is one it does not recognise, it refuses the value rather than converting it by guesswork. Those two rules are what make one reading comparable with the next.

Who this is for

These notes are for people who already get blood work and want more from it. You might use a wearable and want a view that includes your blood, not only your heart rate and sleep. You might follow a longevity routine and want a way to check whether it moves anything. Or you might want a health app that keeps your data on your phone, with no account to create.

The idea is simple. One test gives you a position. A second test, months later, gives you a direction. The change is the useful part. For a faster read, the DELTA protocol places three blood draws around a planned 48-hour fast, after a strict safety screen. Delta is a wellness app, not a medical device. Your numbers are for you and your clinician to talk about.
